The winning teams will have the opportunity to join the NECSTLab folks to visit the Silicon Valley in May 2019 attending the NECST Group Conference.

On October 27 and 28, the teams (composed by 3 students at maximum) will compete in a 48-hours hackathon at DEIB.
From the hackathon to December, the 7 best teams will be selected to a second phase, where each team will be asked to work at NECSTLab with mentors working in the hackathon topics, to develop the Proof Of Concept implemented while attending the October hackathon.

The winning teams of the second phase, will be announced on December 21st and will be awarded with the opportunity of joining the NECST Group Conference (May 17 - June 2 @ San Francisco).

If you are interested in being part of the event, but you are not part of a team, you may want to join the Facebook Group “Hack@NECST” (https://www.facebook.com/groups/Hack.NECST/) and in posting your message there to convince other in joining you!

The hackathon will be composed by 2 tracks: training and wellness The overall topics of interested will be the following:
1. Runtime performance measurements
2. Diary of the day/exercises agenda
3. Nutrition
4. Sleep
5. Recover
Teams will allowed to develop their own solution to address challenges in the 5 above mentioned topics.
A special attention will be given to projects presenting both an app or a user-based tool/platform/item to collect data and a dashboard to collect the used data to allow admins to retrieve information based on their interest.

IMPORTANT DATES

HACKATHON OUTCOMES

The PIs developed during the hackthon will remain to the participants.
If interested, as part of the PEoPLE@DEIB in the Passion in Action initiative, you may be willing to explore two possibilities, but the ones provide by this hackathon itself:
. IEEE RTSI (in Sept 2019, in Florence) by submitting either a scientific paper or a Demo to the IEEE Young Professional Contest
. Switch 2 Product by submitting business idea to this PoliMi competition.
Moreover, if interested in these opportunities, we would like to remind you that in the PEoPLe@DEIB initiative we do have several courses that may be of interest for you, e.g.:
. StartUp 101: https://www.polimi.it/?id=8936&corso=7
. Pitch and Talk: https://www.polimi.it/?id=8936&corso=17
. Goal Mapping and non verbal communication: https://www.polimi.it/?id=8936&corso=18
. Workshop Mnemonica: https://www.polimi.it/?id=8936&corso=9

EVALUATION AND AWARDS

Participants will be requested to:
- develop a proof of concept of their idea during the hackathon to prove that they have the necessary skills to carry on the development during the second phase
- validate their idea from a user’s point of view. It’ll be important to be able to prove that the project will help the user to improve his/her experience
- provide, even if preliminary and bugged version, a basic dashboard to demonstrate the “admin” experience in being able to navigate the collected data from the users
- efficiently communicate the value and potentialities of their technical project - be able to work in team, by having contributions from all the members

The 7 best teams will be selected to a second phase, where each team will be asked to work at NECSTLab with mentors working in the hackathon topics, to develop an advanced version of their Proof Of Concept implemented while attending the October hackathon.

The winners of the second phase, will be announced on December 21st and will be awarded with the opportunity of joining the NECST Group Conference (May 17 - June 2 @ San Francisco).

EXAMPLES OF CHALLENGES

1. Runtime performance measurements
. App to collect information on the performance while performing a certain set of exercises
. Automatic identification of exercise because of the signal collected by wearables
. Automatic data retrieval from wearables
. Design and development of specific wearables to collect a certain set of signals
. All of the above, augmented with the related admin-cantered platform to collect data that can be then analysed by the admin (e.g. how a class had performed during a training session)

2. Diary of the day/exercises agenda
. Apps to provide “WOD” information to users who will perform their training sessions not in a class
. “Walk through videos” that can be “navigated/oriented/zoomed” from the user to gather the necessary information on how an exercise has to be performed
. Collect data on specific exercises in a class to compose the daily activity diary
. App to “interview” a user after his/her training session to have his/her personal evaluation of the training

3. Nutrition
. App to collect information related to daily meals, duration and type of exercises performed during training sessions
. Frameworks to compose the weekly meals to take into consideration dietary suggestions and user habits
. Apps and solutions to place orders through online platform based on the daily meals, without having to interact with the user but during the validation of the meals

4. Sleep
. App on how to measure the quality of the sleep, e.g daily, weekly, monthly bases
. Design and implement wearables or IoT solutions to collect information on the sleep quality (e.g. Noise and lights condition in a room, quality of the air, temperature, etc.)
. Framework to allow the user to specify his/her personal evolution on his/her sleeping quality
. All of the above, augmented with the related admin-cantered platform to collect data that can be then analysed by the admin (e.g. how a class had performed during a training session)

5. Recover
. App and dashboard to collect information on how the user is recovering
. Models to measure the overtraining to suggest possibile ways to limit this phenomena
. Models to suggest changes in user training habits or sleeping/napping activities to improve the recovery
